I’m late in posting this but nonetheless…..
@Bialamode – I agree with your last post! Also, there are still a lot more “POSITIVES” for JiHoon that have come from this situation. The positives outweigh the negatives, and JiHoon still wins with yet another step in further establishing a presence in the U.S. market. Aside from the Ninja Assassin movie and winning the MTV Biggest Badass award, there’s been no mention of him over here. Now his name pops up (again) and wins the People’s Choice vote for #1 Most Influential, by a landslide, and over a lot of well known people. “I’m sure more people than we realize are saying who is this person Rain (an Outsider) again… What and Why…?”
Thank God that JiHoon doesn’t sweat the small stuff, and stays the course! I sure that this recent incident is NOTHING compared to the remarks and potshots that have been made at him over the years, and since he first had the slightest thought of pursuing his dreams. Also, they were from his own countrymen. JiHoon knows that he is an outsider, trying to step into the “infamous-?” U.S. market and that things ARE NOT, and WILL NOT always be fair. Heck, I’m sure things aren’t always fair in Korea. JiHoon is a grown man and far more mature than his 29 years, and has already experienced so many things in his young life (both good and bad) that most of us can’t even imagine. Let’s just remember to always support JiHoon, and lift him up no matter what, and help him become number one at whatever he does and where ever his name appears. JiHoon should not retreat or fall off course due to others negativity but continue to “fly and soar” (as always), and show the nay-sayers and people who ignored him along the way, that he is truly AMAZING!
I know, essentially we’re all saying the same thing. Sure we all feel bad about what happened (and will not be supporting TIME anytime soon), but let’s not sweat the small stuff, meaning that JiHoon is still making progress toward his goals and happy with the results. I believe JiHoon was sincerely happy about all of this TIME magazine stuff, and that it was a nice surprise for him. I also believe it has further inspired him to proceed with his dreams in the U.S. (that’s what he said – in so many words..). At the end of the day that’s who I truly want to be happy, because he deserves it! If JiHoon can find some good out of “ugly” and be happy, I’m not going to continue to point out the “ugly”.
I am happy for JiHoon, because he is happy! ♥

Short and to the point: First I would hope no one would leave JiHoon any negative messages on the CLOUD SITE! But DAMN we are talking amongst ourselves here and we all have the right to speak our minds and as much as I respect ALL of OUR! opinions, WHITE media WHITE hollywood! DAMN! I’m an African American/Plus…Minorities don’t get a far shake BiAlamode how many times have you and ALL of us SAID THIS! I’m not trying to be the DOWNER! just hope those of you in the FU*King CLOUDS understand how it works in the good old US of A! And my GOD! I hope and pray JiHoon will be the first Asian to concur the Hollywood market LORD knows African Americans have been striving for years and if we’re not playing a damn slave or some other demeaning role HALLE BERRY! WE wounldn’t win a FUC*ing AWARD! NOW TELL I’M WRONG!!! And thank GOD JiHoon had a good time and I’m so happy he is happy. But while he wouldn’t express it he know what the hell is going on! BELIEVE THAT! PHEW! ( sorry I just had to get this off my damn chest!).

@lotus6000
Since you felt the need to attach your post as a reply to my opinion, though you state it’s not directed to any one, I will respond anyway;
1. I was born and raised in the good ole U.S.A.
2. I am Black (African American). Actually I am half Black and Korean, which means nothing in the U.S. because most people here are all mixed with several ethnicities through their generations, anyway. Plus at the end of the day, as you know, you are judged by what…? If your skin is black, then you are black, or what’s that rule from way back? If you have X % of negroid you’re considered what..? I am very much aware of what it feels like to be a minority in the U.S.A. Okay, I’ll park this point here, but do know I am extremely proud of BOTH ethnicities!
3. I won’t use the term “CLOUDS”. What I will use is the term “looking through rose-tinted” glasses”, If I had any they fell off my face around middle school (actually they called it junior high school back in the day). I DO see the world for what it is, you have no idea… It just comes down to the analogy of, do you see the glass half empty or half full, and how does that influence how you proceed…
The U.S. does not have a monopoly on prejudice, bigotry, injustice, oppression, ignorance, segregation, favoritism, etc…. This ugliness exist “everywhere” throughout the world, and the entertainment industry is its own “monster” within each country.
Again, per my initial post, Thank God JiHoon does not waddle in any “pity parties” for any length of time, as I’m sure he has had a many of opportunities. He seems to keep pushing towards his dreams despite the obstacles. I am happy for JiHoon, because he is Happy, and will continue to support him in any way that I can! ♥
Feel free to email me if you’d like to discuss further, and to ensure I get your response.

Chisun, actually the only reason I put it on your post was because everyone seems to be in the “Rose tinted glass” about Time and Hollywood and lets be so happy! And just to be clear I’m Also mixed(Negroid?)WTH? sister I’ve never like that DAMN word! But I am African American/Italian/Indian with Asians in my Family. And we were not discussing other countries but since you brought it up oh yes I do know very well of other countries prejudices etc. And it sounds from the way you described school you and I are close to the same age. And as I stated in my post I wasn’t trying to be the DOWNER just wanting those that aren’t aware of how it really is in the US because this site is visited by many that are not from the USA. And I don’t need to Email you because this was NOT an attack on YOU!! And at the end of the day I live my life just fine. Did you even read what I said? Or did you just take it personally? Cause your repeating a lot of what you and I both said about being happy for JiHoon. Seriously it wasn’t a personal attack. And if you still have an issue with me feel free email me.

I was reading Mr. Richard Stengel article about democratization and is a total BS. I am thinking that we should write back to Mr. Stengel and tell him what we think about the way Times’ staff handle Rain’s winning the poll. I mean, we can’t let this go without making a statement!! We should do a coordinated effort between all Clouds that voted and write to them to show our frustration and tell them that we KNOW that the poll was a scam and that they did the mag way before the poll was over. Maybe they did this on purpose to measure our numbers and comitment. I think we should be vocal in great numbers so next time they be aware of the repercutions their actions can bring. I think is the least we could do.

Btw I am not a member of any revolutionary party, i don’t do protest or burn any flags!!! ROFL!!! But I do believe in true democracy and that THE PEOPLE have a fredom of speach that must be used when they feel is necessary. In this case, I believe we should SHOUT OUT this evident discrimination.

Mari,
I agree. Anyone who wants to is free to write Mr. Stengel. But you need to do it now, before the Time 100 activity ends, before they move on to something else that they think matters more.

I can do it, I am ready to do it but one voice is not enough. We need a big chorus for this. It’s the only way it would matter and make a statement. Somehow, I have this image in my head; that moment when Rain is on stage and ask for his Clouds to Scream harder and we do but then he ups his hand, HARDER, he asks. Well, I think we should.

Now that I have more time to make a comment I am gonna start by saying that I am not buying a Time mag EVER. Unless they publish an apology and I know they won’t. Another thing we can do is cancel a subscription if you have one cuz that is the only thing important for them. If you cut down their MONEY, that’s gonna hurt them. We can send them a letter but that’s up to you girls cuz I don’t know if it’s gonna work at all. I am so pissed at them not only for ignoring Rain but also for making us feel ridiculous. I truly hope that at the end this effort we made give some kind of benefit to Rain. One thing we learn from this; we are gonna have to work HARDER so Rain gets the recognition he deserves. Also, I think that being the brilliant man he is, this is gonna be a lesson he won’t forget cuz now he KNOWS that he has a loyal, powerful fanbase that will support him when he comes to the USA and that’s all he needs to know. That we are growing in numbers and that we will wait for him. I am thinking that when he comes to the USA he won’t be coming alone; he will come with a bunch of his friends at the kpop entertainment companies with MONEY up front so they can change the way they look at asians right now. Money talks and is a language that Times understands very well.
Forget Times; they are nothing but a band of fools that lost their opportunity to have world star Rain in their friggin mag.

we’ll b sayin justin beiber whoo???? lol
i also dont think anyone would say anything negative to him. american actors and singers love rain. susan sarrandon was freakin bugged eyed over him when he was doin speed racer. i feel a lot of stars will be excited n honored to meet him and he will have a lot of fun. the celebrities over here DO NOT REFLECT THE STUPIDY OF TIME MAGAZINE. they in no way shape or form are like the idots at time. rain will mingle among the americans n have a hell of a time jokin n havin fun
wish i could see u rain. CONGRATS!

I’m pissed too, but unfortunately this is what the MAINSTREAM MEDIA does. It’s what they have ALWAYS DONE since there has ever been a mainstream media. Ethnic people never get a fair shake. If anybody knows of ANY ethnic person that has REALLY please enlighten me. This IS NOT NEW. Besides Bi AIN’T NO FOOL, hey he may feel the “sting” of the write up, but YOU DAMN SKIPPY he’s coming over here. He is STAYING THE COURSE…….THIS IS BI we’re talking about!! Bi is not a quitter…..he doesn’t “slink away” in shame. If he didn’t hide when all those lawsuits and bad press came at him, he WILL NOT slink away now. HE KNOWS he is not Widely Known in the U.S. yet, so he will do what he needs to do to CONTINUE ON HIS PATH………PERIOD!!
It upsets us because WE KNOW HIM and WE FOLLOW HIM, but people over here still don’t know him, know him in mass. THIS IS what he’s trying to change, by putting his efforts into U.S. movies after his military duty. ALL IN DUE TIME ladies……….All In Due Time. I feel as if I should not be tacky out on twitter especially since Rain is there. I don’t want him to feel as if this win is meaningless. It is not. He is the People’s Choice no matter how TIME chooses to write him up. I also don’t want to somehow give those “netizens” any more ammo to use to make hateful tweets about & to him like they have already done over this award. You know he must feel proud—his tweets this morning and his father now tweeting telling him “you did good”. It was so sweet.
The most punishment I can give TIME is to unclick that LIKE button and unfollow them…after the 26th just in case they decide to throw us a bone. Already scratched buying the magazine off my “to do” list.

well, i already unclicked them and have every intent to use my best weapon of PR (word of mouth)….about this outrageous snub.
there just is no cause for them acting like this. really it’s done on purpose because every since Rain’s name has been on this poll link after link of info. about him has been posted on that site by fans across the globe and i know someone at Time has gone throught those links. TIME just messed themselves up for the future, as far as i’m concerned. look at the votes everybody else got (including Justin)..Beyonce’ got about 87K, Lady GaGa got about 47k and Justin got even less than that. no mention at all about Jay Chou who got over 200k. again, RAIN WILL WALK TALL ON THAT RED CARPET, BECAUSE HE HAS MORE RIGHT TO BE THERE THAN ANYONE ELSE. the people voted for him as #1. he knows that and so do we. if we send messages to him, don’t be apologetic..send happy messages to him because the #1 postion is his and can’t be changed.

That’s how influential he is to us people. Why can’t they realize that? And one thing more that I hated about Time was the video they presented upon learning who won. The host (a woman) in a sarcastic tone of voice went ” and you voted for Rain again. REALLY”. Unquote. The moment she said “Really”, I was thrown out of my seat. What did she mean by that tone of voice. Why would anyone think that Lady Gaga is good influence to the people, or even Justin Bieber. At least Rain had done something worth pondering at. Not to mention the civic responsiblities he did representing his country, his worthwhile efforts for environmental issues and at the wake of the disaster in Japan, he was one of the celebrities who contributed and sent relief. Ignorant people just do not realize that this man is worthy of being in the Time 100 finalist. Shame on these what they call journalists.

so there you go Clouds. ever asked yourself why Time includes Rain’s name year after year since 2006? eatyourkimchi verifies what many of us Clouds learned the 2009 poll. Rain vs moot.

Time to stop reading TIME until we see who is on list next year 😉 But I also have to be honest right now & say I hope he isn’t because of how he is being treated at this moment. It would be a let down for him not to be included again because of having been on it since 2006 …. but is it as great of a let down as what we are all going thru right now with how they are treating his win? It is not as if he is sitting around doing nothing! He makes it 2x and has always been in top and he gets that? The other 2 got more than he did & that girl got a bigger picture than the 2 guys combined. How many of their fans are buying TIME because of them???
Seriously of the people on the cover — I only can name 3 of them: Biden, Oprah, Michelle Obama. Guess they think by writing “Justin Bieber” on the cover that all of his fans will rush to buy it….like they voted so many times for him at their poll. Yeah, uh huh.
Makes me so mad I could chew nails!!!

I totally agree with you i even feel guilt cause i voted so many times and now he’s flying over here God knows how this people are going to treat him or what kind of stupid remarks are they going to make. Is like when he won the MTV awards and people were like shocked that he won. But I wasn’t and I’m not asian. I hope he’s prepared for whatever is coming I hope he knows that no matter what he deserves every single award that us Clouds vote for. People In the U.S.A need to know what great talent Rain is.

DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED! I am still fuming! If I were Rain, I’d be so petty that I’d snub the event.
But then again, I am not Rain, as Rain is more mature than that LOL. And if he has done that then my fellow Cloud sisters & brothers in NYC wouldn’t have a chance to see him.
I totally lost all my respect for TIME!

It’s basically just plain bias. The poll didn’t go according to what TIME wanted. If Rain was white he would have got the front cover and a page all to himself. Pure BS.
