Hmm… I have to say I have never gotten the “All :insert ethnicity here: look alike” thing. I will tell you I’m AWFUL with names and will forget your name a second after you tell it to me but I have a really good memory for faces. Probably has something to do with the fact that I will always remember a place/how to get there as long as I’ve been there once and was paying attention on the way (ask me to tell you the names of the streets, though, and I will look at you blankly). I’ve grown up around all kinds of ethnicities all my life and maybe that’s why I have no problem differentiating people’s faces. Plus now I have to use that skill as part of my job so it’s really ingrained.
I will never forget a face. I’ll definitely never forget Rain’s face… Shoot… I can recognize that man from the back and from the way he’s walking after watching all these videos.
I do have to agree with Marisara on the Asian name thing though… You don’t know how many times I’ve asked (and still ask)StormofStarzz, “Who’s that one guy that’s so hot… the one… the one from that movie… You know!… Ok also Marry Me Mary?… Oh yeah…Kim Jae Wook.”

LOL!!! I am like that too!! Boy, when I am in Twitter there are so much info about performers from different groups or series and I have trouble relating the names with their faces. But I think I am getting better at this. But don’t ask me to say the name out of memory coz I would fail. If I see the name, then I can remember who he is. Also, with asian names I can’t tell if its a girl or a boy they are talking about. I have to wait to see the picture. I feel bad but I think it would take some time for me to catch up with all what’s going on at Kpop world.

Mari, I know JUST what you mean. I started Google imaging every single name I’m curious about so I can see who the heck they’re talking about. That’s really the only way I keep some of it straight. There’s so many! Sighhh… 🙂 Lol but really it doesn’t bother me.

“It’s simply a human-brain thing to need to see an individual several times in order to imprint them into your mind sometimes…”
I can attest to that. Usually, If my first encounter (or visual) of someone did not make an impression of any kind, you can ask me 2 minutes later to describe…, and I would probably have a hard time, regardless of ethnicity. And with names, I’m not much better. Your name can be “Ann”, and I may accidentally call you “Pat” the next time I see you (No I’m not an air-head… Sorry). Now on another note, once you’ve made even the slightest impression – it’s an entirely different game.
Jung JiHoon has been tattooed/engraved into my psyche. His profile/silhouette, his voice and speech, his stands, maybe even his walk… If I see, or hear anything that resembles it, I am moving in closer…. to check it out! (Interesting, I kinda sound like a hound-dog or something…) Okay, I guess I’m truly a fan now. Oh well, what else can I say. 😉

Oh well… I guess that means we’re both hound dogs, then. 😛

I’ve personally heard that old saying (they all look alike) applied to everybody by somebody else. To Blacks. To Asians. To East Indians and Native Americans… you name it, in an offensive way. But the way you all are discussing it is NON-offensive. It’s simply a human-brain thing to need to see an individual several times in order to imprint them into your mind sometimes, yeah.
Back six years ago, as a new Rain fan who had NOT yet seen all of JiHoon’s many expressions and looks, it took me several months to realize that smoking hot, sexified, hair braided, Rainy Day concert Rain and conservative, painfully shy, adorkable jerk-ass Lee YoungJae Rain were the same guy. ROFL!

Yes I have heard (they all look alike) referred to my peeps (Black). Lord knows, we come in too many different shades (hues) to look “cookie cutter.” Also we live in a country where there are people from every ethnicity represented, so Americans “see” different ethnic people daily. I can however see how it might get a little difficult distinguishing someone who lives in a homogeneous society (everyone mainly is of the same ethnic background). However, when you look at all the YT videos and different TV shows and such, CLEARLY all Asian people Do Not look alike.
Bi said this himself and I was watching the video saying to myself….”now that ain’t true Bi, C’mon now, let me tell you how I can recognize YOU!”………(SMILES)

I must said that I am one of those people who don’t pay much attention when I am walking on the city and I am short sighted so I could have some problems recognizing people I know on the street but I think that I can recognize Rain not only for his profile but for his hight. Is strange to see tall asians and tall people impress me so I would notice him. In some sense is true that we have problems recognizing asians, specially when you are in their countries. Names are another thing we have trouble remembering. I do have a hard time remembering asian names. I am sorry to said this but is true. Unless I see that name several times, I would not remember it.

Bi once said on an episode of Happy Together that he was on with Lee Hyori and Joon, that Westerners had a hard time recognizing/distinguishing Asians (in answer to Joon saying he had been mistaken for Rain once). I disagree, “slightly.” I agree with this post….a Cloud will always recognize Bi and his beautiful profile.
However, as far as recognizing different Asian people, I’ll say this……UNTIL I Get To Know You Really, Really Well…..don’t commit a crime and expect me to be the eye witness that proves your innocence, especially if I’m in your country. No disrespect….(*JUST SAYING*)
