@Jelyba Thank you so much for posting the Nan analogy. Wow that was very interesting information. I never thought about that performance in that way. I just thought it was and is one of the hottest and sexiest performance I have ever seen. I also, will never look at the Nan performance in the same way. Really after reading that how can anyone look at it in the same way. LOL, now that I know what should happen at the end of the performance, when I watch it now I am looking forward to the ending even more than before!!!!

Jelba that info about Nan was very interesting!!!! I love Nan coz Rain gives his all singing that song and he ends exhausted but now I get why. Lol!!! Gezz, and people still thinks that Korea is a concervative society!!!! They have lots of sexuality going on but the thing is that you have to learn how to discover it. Please don’t get the wrong idea about what I was saying… Questions are always good, I’m sure… For me, half the fun was researching him myself. I swear there’s been a few nights where I sat there for hours (and I do mean MANY hours) and looked at someone’s photobucket of 1000 Rain pics or a site’s stash of gajillion posts of pics of him spanning back yrs (and stealing many for myself too… lol). Let’s not even talk about the countless hours I’ve spent on YT watching videos of him! I’ve also had questions about Korean culture and started Googling more scholarly sites about Korean sociology and culture, just because of things I’ve seen Rain do or say (or wear…lol). Everyone is different though… Do what you feel is comfy for u. I would totally feel bad if you posted less coz u took offense to something I didn’t mean you to take offense to!

Okay, first of all, this comment is totally random, but because this is an open thread I can get away with it. Ha ha.
Anyway, I was reading Google alerts and I was following link backs to mentions of Rain when I came across this blog: http://hollywoodhatesme.wordpress.com/.
I hadn’t seen this blog before, but I thought I’d share it with you, because the author is pretty funny. For example, she insists there must be a conspiracy in Hollywood to cast hot Asian pop musicians in action movies, and points to Jay Chou in The Green Hornet and Rain in Ninja Assassin as evidence.

As far as I know, Rain’s SixtoFive stores have all been closed and his 6to5 website at http://www.6to5.co.kr/ doesn’t appear to work anymore.
Maybe someday, it will be working again. But we’ve had no news of a re-opening yet.

I got mine through KBSWorldi if that helps you. They have it available as an EOR (Episode on Request) but its essentially the same thing. No special packaging or bonus features or anything like that, but I don’t mind at this point!

Yeah, minus the fact that there’s no bonus material, its really great. The best thing is that all the subs are EXCELLENT!! Which is more than I can say for my DVDs of Sang Doo, Full House, and A Love to Kill, unfortunately…

You’re just gonna have to go to “Rain School” like all the rest of us “newbies.” Believe me you’ll LOVE the journey!……(SMILES). I have only known about Rain since March of 2010 and I am still discovering many new things about him. Even though Cloud USA is “chock full-o-info”, I’ve discovered other sites along the way and our Cloud “Big Sisters” Stephe and Terri don’t mind one bit when we go other places, cause we let them know about other Rain info they may not have discovered or known about. We love to share like that here. However, I do get lost in some of the “Convos” here too sometimes when I don’t know what everybody may be referring to, but just like with your blood relatives…..I just say…..”Humphf!…I’ll go find info out about my Boo on my own!….Nannie, Nannie, Boo, Boo!”…….It’s All Good!…..(SMILES) Hey, You Tube is my second home! (LOL!!)

I just found out about him in June and found this blog in July but I did some scrolling back though the months here and other sites and YouTube to really learn about him. I looked through hundreds of pics, vids, and articles, girl… You’ll have fun and most of your pressing questions will b answered. 😉

@BiAlamode and Divalicious, It seems like Rain gained a bunch of new fans this year, myself included! I didn’t discover him till June either, though I did hear the name back when the Ninja Assassin trailers were playing.
@flower, I agree with the above comments, you just have to look around the internet. There’s definitely tons of stuff on Rain out there, and most of it is pretty easy to find.

Thanks for responding anyway and the advice. I have looked at other sites. I will continue to look around to learn more about Rain. I am even a newer fan to Rain then you guys are. I just discovered Rain in August of last year.
I really like this site alot and the very nice people that post on here. I am really impressed with how this site is set up. However, I am starting to get the impression that maybe I am asking too many questions or the wrong type. I just thought that this was an open site, especially this open thread, that you could ask any appropriate type of questions. But I get the feeling that I am bothering people, so I am going to stop posting as much. I still love this site and will continue to come here for info on Rain. But I think I need to back off with my posting. I am not saying this to purposely offend anyone. I am not that type of person. So please do not take anything I am saying that way. I am just feeling a little confused.

@flower, hey girl, none of us want you to back down on posting questions. We certainly don’t want you to feel like your questions aren’t welcome. I think what we meant to say when we suggested you check out other places too, is that sometimes there may be things about Rain or Korean pop culture that we have no clue about. I’m sure a lot of us here are brand new at Rain knowledge, like you or me. I think what we meant to say, is that if we don’t know about it, you’re free to look other places too. I’m certainly eager to convert as many people as possible to Rainism. If your still interested in knowing more about the Nan analogy from the book, I’d be happy to send you an email. I don’t want Steph to delete my comment if I post the Nan paragraph on here word for word, hahaha! She’s so great at keeping this place under control.

Its pretty risque, definitely one of the more “out there” theories I’ve ever heard! @flower, your email question wasn’t stupid, you can ignore it. I’m not sure how I would switch emails on here anyway, lol! I guess I wasn’t really thinking about it when I posted that!
Anyway, I guess I’ll just post the short version on here and hope Steph doesn’t delete me. But since she already posted about penis enlargement on here haha, I guess I’m ok!! Basically, it talks about how, historically, “cloud and rain” have been referred to in Chinese literature as sexual intercourse. So when Rain performs Nan on stage, shirtless and under pouring water, the “shower show” simulates sex. The rain (or sperm) falls down on the fans/clouds (ova or egss). At the end or “climax” of the song, all of the fans/clouds experience a collective “orgasm.” According to the author, this idea is reinforced by the historical significance of “rain and cloud,” especially since we’re all called Clouds. So that’s what I meant when I said I’ll never see a Nan performance the same way again haha. Of course, we all know Rain and JYP almost certainly did not intend this interpretation when they first planned out how Nan should be performed. In fact, I can just imagine Rain’s face if this ever gets back to him haha!
Well, that’s pretty much the basics of it. Please don’t delete me Steph! I tried to keep it as clean as I could, honest! (If you must, you may, of course lol) I hope that satifies your curiosity guys! Hopefully it didn’t scar you too badly, lol!

It never would have occurred to me that interpretation. To be honest i know that Rain may look innocent but i don’t buy that not in a million years. He knows how to use his sexyness and hotness very well and how to sell it. I don’t think he does any of those sexy moves by accident. He knows his business LOL.

Clever indeed. I’m reading the book now. It is a textbook, so it is very dry reading, but extremely interesting–to me anyway. Of course, I’m a bookworm though. So, I doubt the usual Rain fan is going to want to read it.
The book’s author, Sun Jung, is a research fellow in the School of Communication and the Arts at Victoria University, in Australia. The book presents a well-argued study that examines how Korean masculinity is being reconstructed because of the Korean Wave (Hally-hu) and why.
I’m only a few chapters in, but I’m learning a lot. Especially about Rain and how he and other Korean stars are marketing themselves to the world. You know how around here people are always saying things like “God, he so sexy,” “That man is walking sex,” “I don’t understand why am I so attracted to this guy???” Well, this book explains exactly why you might be feeling that way. Extremely interesting, IMHO.
If you don’t mind wading through academic vocabulary, and if you think that the art of communication and marketing and the “shifting construction and representation of masculinities in the era of globalization” are interesting, then I highly recommend you buy a copy of this book.
Besides…Rain is on the cover. :-}
