Word on the street: Is Rain about to put on that Red Scarf?

Remember when all the news stories hit back in August that Rain might be starring in a remake of director Sang-ok Shin’s 1964 movie Red Scarf?  And remember when, during a press conference not long ago, Rain said out of his own mouth that he would be doing a fighter pilot movie after The Fugitive: Plan B?

Well, word on the street is that his “Red Scarf” odyssey is beginning.  How exciting!  (Remember, it’s all in the translation… scarf = muffler.  Same difference.)  » Allkpop’s post on the matter is HERE.

This has not been confirmed by J.Tune yet, as of this posting.  So stay tuned.

Newsen 12/6/2010 —

Rain is cast to play the hero in “Red Muffler,” a 10 billion KRW blockbuster.

‘Red Muffler’, a 10 billion KRW (around $9,000,000) blockbuster, stars actor and singer Rain, alongside actress ‘Sin Se Kyung’.

In particular, in the film, Rain’ll play as a fighter pilot bombing Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, which attracts great attention.

Recently, in a situation where there is a growing public sentiment that North Korea must be more severely punished for bombing Yunpyung island belonging to South Korea, this film that contains a scene in which South Korea’s missile strikes into Pyongyang, the heart of the North Korea, will be the talk of town during and after its release.

During the phone call with Newsen on the 6th, an official from the film studio (CJ Entertainment) expressed, “Rain has selected ‘Red Muffler’ as his last project before his joining the army, while actress ‘Sin Se Kyung’ will play the heroine of the film.”

In the film, Rain and ‘Sin Se Kyung’ will play a fighter pilot character named ‘Tae Hoon’, and an aircraft mechanic character named ‘Se Young’, respectively, and they build a loving relationship with each other.

One of the production crew said about this, “Rain has signed up for the film, but in her case, the offer has been accepted, subject to contract because the issue of appearance fee is not solved yet.”

‘Red Muffler’ will be produced by the unwavering support of the Air Force, and the production side has been promised to access through the several military installations in the airbase located in Rain’s hometown, Seosan, in Chungchungnam-do, and it begins shooting as early as late January of next year.

  1. Yes, very true, busy. You have to wonder…?

I tell you, if he hadn’t already spilled the beans himself about a pilot movie in order to calm down those fans who thought he was going Air Force instead of Army (as IF a man could actually become a fighter pilot in a 18 months anyway, give me a break, fans!), I might have held off for a while.

  2. well u know this is the second event that’s not confirmed yet by JTune. the first one is Rain’s performance in Germany and now this movie.

looks like someone leaking news before the official announcements are made. is this a new strategy or something? but, here’s a thought, JTune may be with holding the Germany news so as not to interfere with the upcoming concert ticket sales. hummmmm just a thought, but if true, it’s a good strategy. another report says Rain has already signed the contract to do this film but the young lady’s is not complete yet. wonder where’s this inside info. coming from?

    • Yes, and I’m wondering what the hay is going on.

The Dresden Music Festival is HUGE. BIG. Rain would NOT appear in the Dresden Music Festival’s program if he wasn’t confirmed. Period.

And I seriously doubt the producers of Red Scarf would have announced to the Media (Newsen) that Rain had the lead in their movie unless it was true.

So, I’m not quite understanding the intelligence of J.Tune’s so-called “strategy” here, because I hate to break it to ya, J.Tune. The news is already OUT.

  3. Exactly. Which is why we’ve done it as a “word on the street” — unconfirmed.

And as I recall, that’s what WE originally warned everyone about back in August, with all of that “There’s a (quote) good possibility (unquote) that Rain will do Red Scarf” business.

    You’re singing to the choir.
