Blast from the past #37: Oh, my god.
He was newly debuted (2002), and starting off a song in front of… not K-Pop fans, but a slew of South Korea’s elite at the Hall of Fame.
Just LISTEN to him (this is why he’s got us Sistas going crazy). Oh-em-gee. And the choir said AMEN.
*speechless*

Wow!!! I saw the lady soo please with his performance but I got no idea who she was. Talk about presure, Lord!!! This performance takes another whole new meaning when you see it knowing who the Lady is. Rain was young, yes, but think about where he is at that moment. His mom pass away recently, he is trying to prove he is for real and his talent is all he got to prove that. The presure is so strong that he don’t have space for nothing but perfection. That’s why he is so sure of himself coz I bet he practice that song till he was satisfied. Rain’s life has been sooo hard that he achieve maturity early and here you have the results. Amazing!!!

@Steph, yes i can imagine…but leave it up to Rain, he shows total control of himself. what i have been looking for is his performance for the current UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. i read that a congratulatory ceremony was given for him to honor his appointment to the UN there in Korea and Rain performed and met with the Secretary for more than 20-30 minutes. i also saw a vid of the now President of Korea, who attended Rain’s concert when he was the Mayor of Seoul. ir seems that Rain has been capturing the attention of who’s who’s in Korea for a very long time. and this vid is just after his 1st album release, right?

Can you imagine the pressure of such a thing? Having to start singing a cultural treasure’s song in front of that cultural treasure, by yourself, without flubbing it up even though you’re probably nervous as all get-out? OMG, she’s gonna be sitting there with her eyes peeled on me…
And he came through like a champ. (Gosh, I would have loved to hear him sing the whole song, I’ve always liked trot music.)
You said it, busy. Destined.

@Terri…had to go look her up…she’s considered Korea’s cultural treasure and greatest singer in Korea, with a career spanning all the way back to the 50’s. yt shows her singing this exact song at different venues. Rain certainly does due justice here in performing her song for her. kudos to him and her. she does look proud. this seems to be a performance to honor her achievements.

@Terri…i’m curious about her too. don’t have a clue, but she must be important to the program. hummmm.
so you think she may be the song writer? if so, she looks very proud listening to Rain sing. i would have loved to hear him sing the entire song by himself. (not to take away from of choir), but the man has power in those vocal cords, and the way he sways those notes at the end, makes my ears giggle with pleasure, seriously

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong (especially, as I don’t speak/read OR write Korean), but isn’t the song he’s singing “Lady Camellia,” by Lee Mee-ja?
And is that Lee Mee-ja sitting in the audience? I’m not very familiar with trot music, and so I might be mistaking her, but isn’t that her they pan to at the beginning of the song?
Anybody know? I’m very curious.
