William Choi gives his views on Rain’s blossoming Hollywood career.

[Cloud USA] Asian source the Herald Economy News reported in their pages today that William Choi and Rory Leigh, two very active Korean-Americans in the showbiz industry here in the States, visited South Korea recently by invitation of the Korea Culture and Content Agency (KOCCA).

William Choi of Management 360 (on your left in the image), who, at 42 years of age, is Rain’s manager—OR directly overseeing Rain’s management—in Hollywood, is quoted as saying: “We aren’t concerned about the two-year interval when Rain will be away in the military.”  He also pointed out that the late Frank Sinatra began his career as a singer and made it big as an actor, and because of that, Sinatra is a good role model for Rain.

Mr. Choi also gave his own point of view on Rain’s Hollywood career, and the strategy that he thinks will put Rain in high demand.  “It may be good for Rain to star alone in a movie like Ninja Assassin, but for now, I think it would be better for him to co-star in action films with three or four other Hollywood stars…. Asian stars usually choose action films, which could be a main reason that there are linguistic problems.  If Rain had a better command of English, he’d be very attractive as an actor even in terms of romantic comedies.”

Management 360 manages many clients, among them Matthew Fox, Taylor Lautner, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Biel, Eric Dane, and Marisa Tomei.

(Thanks to rain bird, Rain Europe, and the Herald Economy News for this information.)

We are really happy to have another piece of the Ji-Hoon puzzle concerning his representation here in the U.S. of A.  Mr. Choi, who has been in the business since 1997 and a talent manager at Management 360 in Beverly Hills since 2002, was recently promoted to partner of the firm this past February, which tells us that Rain is in very knowledgeable hands.

Hollywood 101: To put things in better perspective: Mr. Choi of Management 360 sits squarely between Rain and the William Morris Agency (who is Rain’s Hollywood representative, as we understand it) in the position of middle man, if you will.  For example… your representative scouts out the best projects for you and passes them to your management, who in turn decides if the project is indeed perfect for your needs and then recommends it to you (or warns you away from it).  This isn’t written in stone, of course.  Stars and representatives often talk and meet directly as well.  Managers will be quick to scout out projects on their own.  But the thing about the relationship between stars and managers is that it’s much more personal.  A manager is  a confidant that a star can go to for everything.  A manager is closer to the star than any other rep (with the exception of a personal assistant, but you know what we mean).

With Mr. Choi’s viewpoints (that we completely agree with), Rain’s talent level, and the caliber of representation and management that he has here, we see nothing but brass rings in Rain’s future.  The next ten years are going to be amazing to watch.

As we recall, earlier this year the KOCCA (Korea Culture and Content Agency, one of the sponsors the Concept Korea event in NYC back in February) gave Rain a Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism Award for contributing to the development of domestic cultural  events.

  4. Honestly speaking..with RAIN’s talent…I mean his versatility as a performer it will not really be hard for any talent manager/agent/rep to find a suitable/perfect project for him…RAIN is awesome as an actor..He is indeed excellent actor/singer/dancer..I’m praying for another big Hollywood movie for him next year…

  5. That’s good, i believe that Rain is ready for another movie. His skills are amazing and should be put to good use. The military thing got a bad timing but he has to do it so there’s no way around that in the meantime he should hit those english lessons so he could be ready for what’s to come. I really hope that he could do a concert in the US. That would be amazing. Question: how come he never does a song in the series he acted? That’s a shame coz he is missing a great opportunity there.

  9. Well what a great article! It’s nice to know he’s on very capable hands in the U.S. Im glad Mr. Choi said the 2 yrs in the military would b no problem for him. I was a tad qorried about that.
I totally agree about the ensemble cast thing…
@ stephe I wish he had been in The Expendables too. It wouldn’t been the perfect movie for him. Was it Oscar caliber? Definitely not. But it was fun, a lot of people saw it and it had a good cast and really good action
scenes. He does need to work more on his English because I’m dying to
see him in a rom com.
Hopefully he’ll get lots of exposure from the Fugitive. Didn’t Kbsi post on facebook that there’d be a showing of the 1st ep in L.A.?

  10. Also, what they are saying I have said in some of my past “rants” and that is Bi should star in movies with ensemble casts. This way he gets exposure in the U.S. without the pressure of having to carry the movie. I agree wholeheartedly.

    • That’s why I was so disappointed that Sly couldn’t give him a firm date for Expendables filming, so he could get in on that. Gah! I truly believe this is the way to go for now, and it’ll lead right down the path to solo Oscar territory.

(but wait, there IS going to be an Expendables 2… heheh!)
