[ETA English translation] RAINY DAY Season 2, episode 33.

Asia broadcast 9/18.  ZEPP rehearsal is finished, and now is the time to finalize notes backstage.  Rain reminds me of brokerage E.F. Hutton back in the 80s—when he talks, everyone listens.  Haha.

Ahh… and now it’s time to hit the streets of Japan for some good grub during the day.  What’s in Rain’s bowl looks a little too good, apparently, as my stomach is suddenly growling.  After a tummy-filling experience, the streets are busy but calm.  You know it’s got to be NICE for Ji-Hoon to simply stand there soaking in the scene and not cause a riot or have to run for his life.  Good for him!

Next up is behind the scenes of Rain’s Han Love interview on Japanese TV.  (You remember, when I was all over that Ji-Woo shirt and hair he was sporting, as if he was on his way to or coming from the Runaway set.  » You can revisit that interview and translation HERE.)

Goodness gracious, the man can pose, can’t he? Mmm…!  And his broad shoulders look even broader in that dress shirt.  We all saw those beautiful stills in the white suit that came out in the Japanese magazines… now we get to see Rain footage in that suit.  Sooo fine.

Looks like next week we might actually get into a ZEPP Hall concert itself, but we’ll have to wait and see.

GREAT episode, Ji-Hoon!  Enjoy, all. 🙂

(Brief translation by rain bird @rain-eu.)

0:48~1:19

Rain : Please be sure to move only after lights are turned off.  Whatever may happen, each of you should get a marker coated with phosphor and stick it on your own body.  Dot-shaped markers should be on your own bodies on the first-floor stage, while on the second-floor stage, you can stick larger ones that you won’t mind showing them to others on your bodies.  On arriving at the concert hall tomorrow, please check each other’s dot-shaped markers.

1:22~1:38
Rain : My statement will go ahead during the bridge where I have to change my clothes in the performance.

Please play the music now.

1:55
Rain : Thanks for your hard work.

2:30
Baekga : I think this restaurant has been particularly popular with entertainers.

Guide : I’ve ordered some more Kimchi.

Baekga : Oh, very well…

3:07~3:24
Rain : Koreans go to this restaurant often, right?

Guide : That’s right.

Rain : What’s this?

Guide : Vinegar…That is garlic..Please give us another Kimchi.

3:45
Rain : It’s delicious.

3:51
Rain : Please stop and eat. (to the camera man)

~INTERVIEW~

4:55
PD : So here we go…

5:05
Reporter : I just want to say congratulations on your Zepp Tour in Japan’s cities, from Sapporo to Fukuoka. What is different about the Zepp Tour?

Rain : I previously performed on stage in Budokan, Toyodom, YoYogi, etc on a large scale, while this time, I wanted to have a concert which amuses the audience in several smaller concert halls where I can communicate with them. After this thought, I’ve come to start this concert tour.

5:46
R : You seem to be interested even in small towns such as Sapporo, Fukuoka, etc.

Rain : I actually have a lot of interest in every single city in Japan.  My fans have always flown to the place of the performance to meet me so far, but I try to visit them this time.

R : But you are supposed to have a concert in Saitama Super Arena after Zepp tour.

Rain : It’s going to be done on a large scale, the way in which it goes ahead splendidly as usual, compared to Zepp Tour which can accommodate up to around 2000~3000.

0:27~0:45
Rain : I appreciate Japanese fans welcoming me so, although I’ve sometimes found some time to pay the fans a visit while staying in the U.S.A.  [I cannot figure out the structure or meaning of this sentence.  Sorry.  But I am curious… ^@@^]

And there’s no difference between being a solo performer and being in a group.

1:09~1:33
Rain : ‘Love Song’ is a song about a man, who wants to stop his girl friend from leaving him, and it did actually happen to me as well.  I’ve written both the words and the music of ‘Love Song’, whose motive comes from my personal experience.  The main theme of its music video is also that a man misses his girl friend and wants to stop her from leaving him.

1:35~2:14
R : What does ‘Love Song’ mean to you?

Rain : This song is based on a real life but is not reserved just for the love.  In addition to a love story, it tells the story of a social issue as well.  My intention is just to make a good song by bringing back memories of the happy days of the good old times.

2:15~2:30
R : What is your favorite song in the album?

Rain : I spent a lot of time on ‘Love Song’, therefore, I think I like this most.

2:31~2:50
R : How was your album recorded?

Rain : The recording of the album was done in 3 different languages, Korean, English, and Japanese from the beginning stage. Japanese pronunciation was very difficult because I had not been studying Japanese steadily.

3:00~3:58
R : Please tell me more about your album’s title?

Rain : It means, “Let us [go] back to the basics and start work with a renewed mind and with humility,” while [also] trying to tell my fans [frank confessions].  So, unlike my previous concerts where I performed in big halls which have accommodations for 20000~30000, I try to directly visit my fans to offer them to see a great show and have a great time, in which we can communicate with each other in small halls for 2000~3000.

4:15~4:51
Rain : Thanks for giving me your love, although I haven’t stayed in Japan for a long time…  This concert tour has been arranged as a part of a service for my fans, which is for those of you who have supported and loved me a lot, while taking time from my schedule.  I wish you could just be happy by this concert tour, and I’ll visit you often in the future.

R: I think Japanese fans are looking forward to the concert tour…

  1. I was just curious if somebody in this site knew about it. I know is a private thing and my intention was not to cause any debate. What I feel for Rain would’nt change a bit cause I know he is a good person no matter what he believe. It was just the cross that he uses, in different forms, but a cross anyway and also, I saw a video of him visiting his Mom’s tomb and it was simmilar to what we use here in the US. I know the Korean people practices various religions like in any other country. It was just plain curiosity for this things I noticed about him.

Stephe, perhaps Rain meant that he sometimes found time to pay Japanese fans in the U.S.A. a visit? There are several Japanese communities in California, New York and other areas that Rain may have visited during his time here in the U.S.A. filming Ninja Assassin and Speed Racer. Maybe that’s what he meant?

That works for me, ‘preciate it. I don’t usually have problems getting his meaning, but something just shorted out in the old noggin today, I guess.

      Hope your weekend was good.

  4. He was playing with his hair!!!! Gahhh!!!! Wanna touch it, wanna touch it!!!! OMG!!!! Ok, I am alright now. *sigh* THE HAIR melt down is finish. He was sooo sweet in the restaurant, looove to see him relax, looking for good food and taking photos. I am glad he took some time to himself cause the ride during these months has been grueling. It touch me deeply to see him praying, these are the things that make him soo special to me. The things that make me love him more as a person, not as an artist. I don’t know what religion he practices but makes me curious cause he uses the cross a lot in his costumes and makes me wonder if is only a fashion trend or if it really something significant to him. Anyway, looove you JiHoon more and more with each day cause the way you are sweety. MUA!!!!

    • Mari,

If I am not mistaken, I believe he is Christian.

    • Here is a page on the different religions in S. Korea…

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_South_Korea

Info on Rain’s religion hasn’t come directly from him, to my knowledge. I’ve never thought of him as “straight” Christian because whereas he does believe in Heaven, and I have heard a “god” or two come out of his mouth, I haven’t heard him utter the name of “Jesus” or “our Lord.” Lord knows, I don’t know everything — there are people who call themselves Christian who don’t believe in Christ, and the Christian cross is only one of many types of crosses in the world that people wear…

Until this episode, the few times I’ve seen his head bowed in prayer like that have only been at his mother’s grave.

With South Korea’s history so heavily steeped in Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, and with the spiritual things I’ve heard him say over the years, I’ve always thought of him as practicing a type of nondenominational Christian/Buddhist/Taoist mix that revolves around Heaven and the loved ones waiting and watching on the other side.

But that’s just me. I’ve no idea.

I’m certainly not trying to start a debate, just throwing out my thoughts. His religion is private and should be the last thing anyone debates.

      • Hey, I’m not trying to start a debate either. Like you curiosity about the Korean culture lead me to read about the religions there as well. I have only heard him make reference to his mother in heaven during an acceptance speech.

I can only SPEAK FOR MYSELF. I AM CHRISTIAN and when people mention heaven to me it signals Christianity, however I am not trying to debate what he is.

One thing I CAN SAY. I DO KNOW what I WILL and WHAT I WON’T follow and if Rain begins to exhibit ANY of the characteristics that cross my PERSONAL BOUNDARIES………..I will be GONE!!!

I have my own personal convictions and even though I can not claim to be a perfect creature (this is evident in many of my comments), I don’t intend to stray from them ONE IOTA!

I mean no offense to anyone by my statements……….

        • No offense taken by me, BiA. I love it when people can just talk and exchange ideas and come away knowing each other better without a whole lot of drama kicking off.

I think that one of the things that draws people to Rain is just what we’ve been talking about… that he is obviously a deeply spiritual person and that, whatever that entails, he gets great comfort and motivation and peace from it. I feel the same way you do about my own personal boundaries… but I don’t expect I’ll ever have to shut down on him. You can never truly know a person from afar, but my “compass” has always registered on him as “genuine” without wavering.

Only more time will tell. 🙂

          • That’s cool. I do know myself and as “wordy” as I can get on this blog, I have had to pull myself back sometimes so as not to offend. When I believe deeply in something, I defend it to the core. Mama, Daddy, Grandma and Grandpa taught me that. If you had known my paternal Grandma, you would say Grandma was a “Bad Motor Scooter!” So I get it honest!………(SMILES)

  6. @ StormofStarzZ2,

I noticed him saying grace as well…….LOVE IT!……It’s another one of those things that makes him much more human and REAL to me. I do the same thing when I eat out as well. LOVE you Ji-Hoon!!

  7. Was his head lowered in prayer before he ate? Just asking cause of my ability for seeing things wrong…..>.<

  8. I like seeing him doing “mundane” things like eat (Smiles)…..in what looks to be the Asian equivalent of a fast food restaurant, that is…….

His world of celebrity seems a little more “real” than the one here in the States. You would very rarely be granted this kind of access to the behind-the-scenes, day-to-day life of a working celeb, you just wouldn’t. The FANTASY of glitz is all they want you to see.

I got in a little trouble in a previous post, because it seemed as if I wanted to get a little too close to celebrity privacy. In actuality, what Rain gives is all I require. He lets his fans see just enough that you see he is a “real human being” off that stage and not some “space alien” that has to be plugged in. That’s when you are relatable to me. I don’t need to know the size of your Calvin Klein undies.

Because even as open as Rain is, you really don’t know ANY of his private business (AS IT SHOULD BE). Beyonce is another celebrity who is HUGE WORLDWIDE and girlfriend has the CLAMP down on her business, once again as it should be. As much as I love her too, the big difference between “B” and “Bi” is they both keep their privacy close to the cuff, but Rain gives off more of a feeling of accessibility whereas Beyonce doesn’t. She seems nice and sweet, but not necessarily approachable. If anyone has met her and I am wrong I withdraw the statement. Bi just makes you feel like if you walked up to him on that street corner and said “Hey what’s up?!”….he’d be like…”Ain’t nothing, but a G-Thang baby”…..(couldn’t help myself, but you get the point)! He doesn’t mind being silly in public, letting his hair down. U.S. celebs can be too “polished” at times (in how they carry themselves), “spit shined” to the gods. So when they really ACTUALLY end up going through some sh__t, you’re like “really and she/he seemed SO pulled together.” Sometimes it’s hard to “feel” FOR them.

By the way before I get B__ch slapped…….I LOVE BEY and of course I LOVE BI (No offense meant to any party)!…..(SMILES)
