Word on the street: Rain’s military enlistment postponed?

Asian source Yonhap News reported in its pages today that the Military Manpower Administration  has announced that, due to his schooling and upcoming film [after his drama?], etc., Rain won’t have to report for active duty until early next year.

An MMA official made a statement that yes, Rain had submitted a request for an extension to his September 29th reporting date, and seeing as there was no real reason not to grant it with all the factors involved, that his request is being accepted and his service postponed.

[We paused for a moment upon reading this.  This official’s actual statement was translated to say, “Since there is no reason why we should disapprove the proposal for the postponement, I think it’s been permitted.”  However, seeing as in our experience, Korean-to-English conversion doesn’t always match exactly when it comes to past/present verb tense, we feel that he could just be speaking in a casual tone, the same way we use Sure, I think so in the States even when we know something has already come to pass.]

And in related news, the Defense Ministry’s PR department has plans itself for a large-scale movie, which Rain and other enlisted K-celebs will all take part in.  The PR department’s manager is quoted as saying, “We plan to schedule the movie production at that point [when] Rain enters the army, but our movie is still in its conceptual stage and the details of the scenario have not yet [been] completed.”

(Thanks to rain bird and Rain Europe for this information.)

Well, fans, what do you think of that?  Hopefully now some of you will relax a little and not be filled with so much depressing Doom & Gloom.  We’re hoping to see something more official from J.Tune, but at the moment this Word on the Street feels awfully good.

Now do you see why I was posting those things about K-celebs serving their country and still staying in touch with their entertainment roots?  The military would have to be crazy not to be chomping at the bit about having Rain’s talent at their disposal.  Here’s your proof that they’re practically salivating over it already, as we speak.  He won’t be completely deprived of what he loves to do best while he’s enlisted, folks.  And he’s going to come back a lean, mean, fighting machine bursting with even more ideas and plans for all of us, his fans.  Thirty isn’t old, nowhere near.  Our best years with Rain are yet to come.

Let’s thoroughly enjoy the extra time we’ve been given with Ji-Hoon.  And let’s concentrate on being a positive, supportive fan base for him, rather than dwelling on negatives that can’t be helped, when his time approaches in 2011.

  1. The man’s gotta do what the man’s gotta do…I’m glad for the deferral and glad he will not get special treatment, as as Korean citizen he has to do his duty as everyone else, I know he is special but also an inspiration to all Korean men, if he got special treatment I would be dissapointed in him as a person, therefore I have a lot more respect for him by not using his status as a reason not to do what the country expects of ALL it’s men…love you BI!!!

    • GREAT comment, L.C.

As much as I want him to stay with us, I don’t feel Rain would want special treatment anyway–that’s just not him. And he might feel that preferential treatment would make him look like a slacker to his fans and peers and countrymen. I’m sure he ain’t havin’ that, ya know?

  2. My thoughts on this are, im a little sad i probably wont be able to see him perform live for 2 years. I really wanted to be able to see him live before his enlistment. But with this is also good news. I have 2 years to now plan a trip to Korea. And now i would make it around the time he gets out of his army duty, and do a comeback concert. I think i could even try to manage that much.

    • Hey I like your positive thinking! I just might look into that as well. I would have to do some serious saving of the bucks, but it would so be worth it!

      • Yea it would be some serious saving, but could you imagine the kind of performance he would do after being gone for 2 years. It would be unforgettable…

  5. Yey, Oh I am sooo happy!!!!!! Finally a wise decision. They should give him less time cause is bad for his career to be out for long periods of time. Regarding Rain in his 30’s ohhhh, gosh he is going to be magnificent. Soo hot and sexy that we are going to faint just seeing him enter the stage. I can’t wait to see him in a US movie again. I need to see another simmering, smoking, melt my socks kiss. Whahahaha!!!! I love Rain!!!
