I was drowsily checking my In-box for news alerts this evening, when I came across these words in itsy bitsy unassuming letters: How Stephen can finally defeat Korean pop star Rain! Colbert Nation Forum.
What? How can that be? Stephen Colbert has discovered some kind of secret weapon that will help him defeat our double sword wielding dancing king ninja assassin Rain? Aigoooo. Ohdukkae! What should I do???
Loyal Cloud that I am, I immediately clicked on the link (which could have been a super-mega-Rain-universe-destroying-virus, but was not—so I’m okay—thanks for asking…), which sucked me into Colbert’s Community Forum category called “Everything Colbert” (copycat :-}), where I discovered THIS little horror, posted by Colbert Fan Samantha, also a Rain fan (OR SO SHE SAYS. Hmph.):

As a fan of Rain (and an even bigger fan of Stephen) I have done my research and found the answer!
On episodes 21 and 22 of the Korean variety show “Family Outing”, Rain is the guest star as the family goes to South Korea’s Soyool Village. As the very first task in this episode, the family has to go fishing for Octopus. It is here that Rain reveals he has a phobia of Octopuses (Octopi?) and their suckers! He even proceeds to scream like a little girl every time one touches him!

Again at 0:58 he is sent frantically running away and pleading for mercy! Up until 1:08 he is complaining about how afraid of them he is!
Stephen should have Rain back on the show, now he does not need a dance battle to defeat him, he has a secret weapon!
It’s a good thing I was on the prowl, Clouds, because who knows WHAT might have happened if I had been snoozing on the job. I’m so proud of myself. :-} Besides, Samantha isn’t that great. After all, she missed the moment at 4:10 where Rain bravely pokes at one of the creatures. Okay, well, NOT so bravely. Okay, he was pathetic. Really. I admit it, my HE man was being more of a SHE man there. But STILL. He TRIED, right? Sigh.
ANYWAY…Stephe’s over at Bob’s Bait, Tackle and Target Shop right now grabbing us up some ammo. I say we go over to Colbert Nation and look around over there and whip us up another good old Rain versus Colbert battle, eh? Just for old times sake. After all, wouldn’t it be grand to see him on American television again, duking it out with one of our favorite comedians while getting even more exposure in the U.S. market? I think so.
So, to quote our favorite Ninja Assassin: “Go. Go now,” Clouds, to Colbert Nation’s Community Page, and sign up for his forums and get cracking! We’re counting on you to find Rain his own secret weapon to use against Colbert, okay?

Rain was adorably cute in this vid. scared of octutus?? maybe any man in Korea, who dosen’t cook can’t stand to handle them. but, you know octupus is served chopped up, raw in Korean resturants (still scrimming on the plate..ewwww). many folks have choked on them and some have even died as they tend to cling to the mouth making it hard to dislodge and chew. according to some news reports. but, i’m on the side of Rain. it gives me shivers just thinking about one of those things on me moving around, OMG! he over came it and that took a whole lot of guts to me. BRAVO Rain.

LMAO@ Rain cleaning that octopus!!! I cried, got cramps in my gut and couldn’t stop laughing at Rain’s face everytime HyoRi(?) tried to help him clean the octopus. You gotta give him that he did touch it and tried to clean it the best he could. That took guts also. Go Rain!!!!:D

O Wow! This was so darn cute! I don’t blame BI I wouldn’t touch that thing or want it on me either hahaha! But anything the get Rain on and more American exposure I’m all for and I really loved this show it was so much fun to watch I found myself yelling out loud for BI thanks for bring it to our attention you guys are Great!

You know, Riverwood? I’m just not sure I agree with you that it was a case of he “was not afraid to show” his fear of octopi. His startled reaction to that thing on his shoulder said he was completely taken aback, which means the interior monologue in his head probably went more like this:
‘FRAK! An OCTOPUS on my shoulder! FRAK, FRAK, FRAK! Okay, wait…was that ME that just screamed like a GIRL??? OH-MY-GOD. It WAS me! And on camera too! FRAK! Okay…think…think…think…okay, maybe if I can touch one of these damned things later I can redeem myself….yeah, that’s the ticket. I can do this. I can. After all–I’m Rain. Yeah. FRAK!’

Oh, for Pete’s sake everybody is afraid of something!!! Rain is afraid of Octopus, so what?? He is human!! He’s done so many brave things like the one when he got to ride a bycicle upside down, or the scenes in NA when he was bouncing all over the building. That took guts. It seems to me he was more gross than afraid but whatever. Maybe it look worst cause the girls were braver than almost all of the boys. He don’t have to be the macho man everytime. I looove him no matter what.:D

Your post cracked me up! I couldn’t think of anything but Colbert sneaking up behind Rain and plopping a slimy octopus on his shoulder. And the ensuing mayhem. ROFL!

I like this cut of the show too… where the crabs they caught bit the crap out of Rain and Dae, and Kim Jong Kook just laughed his butt off at them while looking quite manly… and Rain in his pajamas… and Kim Jong Kook about breaking his neck while racing Rain… and HyoRi and JaeSeok just about breaking both their necks trying to leap a water feature. ROFL!

I like Colbert tremendously. He makes me laugh like a crazy woman even when he’s not “feuding” with Rain. I do hope they get together and do another chapter in the “story.”
Like Colbert going to Korea this time and meeting Rain on his turf, and having to fight his way back out of Korea without being shuriken’d and Raizo’d. ROFL

He is, goddess! HyoRi and the other girl put that octopus on him the first time and he took off running. LMAO I thought I was gonna bust a gut, especially when he went “ugnnn…!” and tried to get it off him. (if he was just clowning around, he’s good)
That was some great stuff. I so enjoyed that show. Rain was entertaining through the whole thing, with his uber-competitive self.
