Blast from the past #s 19 and 20.

Enjoy these highlights of Rain live in concert, commanding the stage at the 2005 Seoul Music Festival, at Seoul World Cup Stadium.  What charisma… 🙂

Have a look at this absolutely excellent fan made I’m Coming mix-up.  Rain is coming down from the rooftops  and shaking it all over the place and camouflage never looked so HOT.

  2. WOW at that first video. His dancing is incredible and so is his stage prescence

I agree with what you are saying about MBlaq, at some point they have to become confident enough to own the stage and control the audience.

  4. @ Terri,

Regarding MBLAQ…….additionally I think they also gotta get RAIN hyung out of their heads WHEN they perform too. At some point all great performers have to not worry about what Mom and Dad or Hyung will think and just do what they do (performance wise). You are the star, people have come to see YOU perform. Mom and Dad will be happy when those checks start rolling in. You have to yes, LIVE the performance as you say and also make it so much apart of you that your audience feels what you feel and it will feel authentic. You can’t “Fake the Funk” and audience can smell it!!

    • Absolutely correct, BiAlamode.

I imagine that it’s tough to get Rain outta their heads, but they just have to do it. After all, Rain had JYP in his head and I’m sure it was just as tough for him at first.

Well, okay, maybe not, because Rain appears to have had the music in him before he even got to JYPE. But that’s besides the point…I see glimmers of the real thing in MBLAQ and I want them to GO FOR IT.

Okay, I’m done being mama bear now.

  6. MBLAQ have charisma, good voices and style; enough juice to make it really big but they have to practice, believe in themselves and work, work, work it out. It seems to me they are performing individually and not as a group. The songs need more work too. They need better lyrics but other than that they are awsome. 😀

  8. Okay.

I love MBLAQ. I really do. I think they are an extremely TALENTED group of boys. I also think they did very well with their live stage performances this year. Their songs were great, their choreography excellent, their stage presence natural, their costuming well done, and their live vocals were some of the best in the industry overall.

Still, there is a REASON they didn’t consistently win the #1 spot during their comeback shows this year. What was that reason? Well, I think Rain was spot on when he told them that they knew their stuff, but that now it was time for them to LET GO, FEEL the music, and just LIVE IT.

It’s that quality that I’m not seeing consistently in them when I watch them perform. Not yet anyway. But I KNOW they HAVE it in them, because I’ve seen them do it every now and then. Like in their July 4th performance here (one of my favorites): https://cloudusa.wordpress.com/2010/07/05/cloud-usa-mblaq-put-variety-in-their-y-yesterday/

And here, in their WINNING performance on June 3rd: https://cloudusa.wordpress.com/2010/06/03/mblaq-wins-on-mnets-m-countdown/

The problem is they can’t do it consistently yet. And the only way they are going to get to the top of their game and STAY there is to be able to give a top-quality, emotion-packed performance EVERY SINGLE TIME they perform and not just sometimes. Top performers, like Rain, KNOW this. And that’s why he keeps pushing MBLAQ on this point.

I’m posting this comment here and not under an MBLAQ performance video, because these “Blasts from the Past” will show you exactly what I’m talking about. You will see in these videos (and in all of Rain’s others, btw) that Rain practices what he preaches. He doesn’t just practice and then PERFORM his songs. Instead, he LIVES them. He goes out onto every single stage thinking, okay, this is it. The dance routines are in my muscle memory. The lyrics are scorched into my brain. Now it’s time to make these songs COME ALIVE THROUGH ME. It’s time to HAVE a BLAST.

That’s what is missing in most of MBLAQ’s performances to me. The ABANDON with which these boys should be performing their songs. Again I say, these boys ABSOLUTELY have the talent to become #1 and to stay on top for a long, LONG time. But they have GOT to start BELIEVING in themselves and all the hard work they have done to prepare for these moments and just LET GO and LIVE their songs on stage.

If they can do just that one thing, then there will be no stopping them. Then they really WILL be Music Boys Live in Absolute Quality.

    Absolutely.

    Terri :-}

P.S. By the way, can you just imagine the chaos that ensued in the studios when Rain debuted his “I’m Coming” on all of the music television contest shows that year? OMG. I’ll bet those shows were something to see, eh? I’m so SORRY that I missed them. (Did he win? I have no idea…)
