The rise and rise of Rainism.

TESL Korea News 7/1/2010 — For those of you out there not familiar with the awesomeness and hotness that is Rain, and his religious following known as Rainism, I cannot help but wonder what rock you have been living under for the past eight years.

Indeed, so great is the greatly growing popularity and fame of Rain, born Jung Ji-Hoon in 1982, that one of my closest girlfriends in Korea felt the need to bestow his name upon one of her three fish – and without the pretense of being racially prejudiced, the three fish happened to be coloured black, yellow and white. Thus, and quite comically I might add they were dubbed Denzel, Brad and Rain.

So, in concurrence with that let me enlighten you about Rainism, just as the Rainy season really does begin!

First of all, Rain is an awesome and very talented pop singer who debuted in 2002 with his hit album Bad Guy. [Actually, Rain’s first album is titled n001, and its first track release was the song “Bad Guy.” Rain’s wiki page needs to be corrected. — Stephe ^@@^ ] Since then he has created seven albums, one of which is Japanese, 19 singles and numerous concert tours around the world, including his biggest, which began the era of “Rainism.”

Secondly, he is an awesome dancer, busting better moves than Usher, a longtime hero of his. He was a back up dancer for various Korean pop-stars long before his rise to fame. You can check out his music video below to see him in action.

And thirdly, he is an accomplished actor, and not half bad at that. With a background and education in performing arts….

This is a nice write-up on Rain, and we admire the TESL Korea News site itself because it brings English-speakers, English teachers in Korea, and locals and foreigners together interactively.  Not to mention, it is a great site for news and Korean culture.  Keep up the good work, TESL Korea. 🙂
