  1. You know I only want the best for JiHoon and I’m sure he’s going to change a lot of things some people may or may not like, but the bottom line is, this is his life his journeys and we’re just here for the ride. And if everyone would understand that it’ll make his life a lot easier.

  2. @Lotus,

Wow, what a sad state of affairs. If this is indeed the case, Bi’s countrymen are behaving just like what you said “jealous lovers” who’ll end up being “scorned lovers” cause Bi’s about to take a “mistress” (work in the U.S.). You know it’s one thing to be proud of your country and heritage but must a person “wear it on their back” at all times. You’re absolutely right, as African-Americans we know this feeling all too well and it makes you WEARY. However, sometimes you’ve just got to “give yourself permission” to be yourself and do what’s right for YOU and that may piss some people off and to them I say…….Oh Well, they’ll get over it. Bi will have to make these kinds of decisions more and more, if he wants to continue to branch out into other countries and His countrymen are just going to have to get with the program or just decide to not be his fans anymore. Not to worry, he will garner news ones, as is becoming evident more and more. Then his original fan base will be stuck at home “pouting” cause “Him don’t play with us no more” (*poked out bottom lip…like a pouting child*). I would much rather be proud that my countrymen is truly becoming known all over the world and shining a HUGE light onto my country and sharing our culture with the rest of the world, as opposed to trying to “hoard” him for themselves. Hey, we want some Bi too and more importantly HE wants to share, so give him a break and the space to do what he needs to do to make that happen.

  3. Well thanks for the info cuz I didn’t knew about this issue. It’s really sad though if they think that way cuz South Korea is getting more and more visitors from the whole world just to see their talented performers and these visitors expend lots and lots of money while they are there so I think they should be more open and let their performers speak english or any other language cuz this guarantee that their visitors feel welcome and happy to be there. Also, I think they feel proud when their performers get worldwide attention so I don’t get why they don’t want their performers to comunicate in the language of the country they are visiting. I mean, I don’t expect that they speak spanish when they visit latin countries, it is cute and we love it but english is used in business so to make a good impression and know what they are getting into with contracts, they should learn it and speak it fluently. It’s sad that their performers feel intimidated to learn a language when at the end of the day, they are doing it to bring honor and money to Korea. 😦

  4. I do wish he’d accommodate his English speaking fanbase more, however Koreans are extremely hard on their entertainers about this as I’ve been seeing with other entertainers. I’m sure the reason he doesn’t do it is because Asian’s would think he’s turning against them. Big Bang member Taeyang had to tweet an apology saying he loved hangu but he needed to learn English. So in this regard I really feel for JiHoon I mean Asian’s are his main fanbase and he can’t afford to piss them off or lose them.

This reminds me of our struggles as a people (black) we are extremely hard on each other.

MJ was a major world star I wonder what he did?

    • Lotus,

I know what you are saying. Still, the thought that Rain’s Korean Clouds might begrudge him the chance to be a world star simply because they don’t want him to speak English to his English-speaking fans always saddens me.

I just don’t understand this envy thing. It’s almost covetous and just not right. Rain is Korean and he will always be Korean–regardless of what he does or where he lives or what language he speaks. He will always be THEIR world star–not ours–simply by nature of the fact that he is Korean. So, I am completely baffled by this strange concept of being angry with your stars simply because they are trying to learn to speak other languages, so they can talk to their other fans.

Frankly, I would love it if our American stars would get off their duffs and learn some other languages besides English and actually try to speak (or sing) them to their fans. It would be amazing and would bring them so much love. And I would be TOTALLY proud of them.

As for Michael Jackson, I know he sang in English, Spanish, and French, but I don’t know how much of those languages he actually spoke, or whether he was fluent in any of them. Does anyone else know?

      • They want him to be a world star but on the same hand it’s kinda like being a jealous lover. You know, making sure he stays loyal. Keeping him he check sorta. I understand it in a way, he belongs to them. But on the same hand he’s not the average entertainer, he has a massive fanbase from all over the world. World star…..sigh…shrugging shoulders. It’s not his fault I really do feel for him, talk about being pulled in all kinds of directions.

        • Sigh. I feel for him too. It’s just a shame though. He wants to do so much for Korea, but doing what he wants to do requires him to do things like travel to other countries and speak other languages, so that he can represent Korea to the best of his ability.

And bring travelers and commerce back to Korea. Just look at what even Cloud USA has been encouraged to do. A group of us are saving our $ and planning to visit Seoul next year. That would never have happened if we weren’t Rain fans. Never. Tourism is up there and Rain is one of the reasons it is happening at all.

But I don’t know why I’m surprised. In general, most people only think about themselves. Even here in the U.S. (or maybe I should say ESPECIALLY here in the U.S.). Sigh.
