Yes, fans… this is an edited clip of the Macao press conference that the AP article shot around the world stemmed from. Please point out for me anywhere in this footage where Rain acted as if OR said that he was no longer interested in pursuing an acting career in Hollywood. *insert Final Jeopardy music here, while I wait* Nothing, huh? Right. As if the man would be crazy enough to step in a pile of kaka like that after all the hard work he’s done over here. Really?
What is clear as crystal is Rain’s pride in the fact that Asia has been able to catch up in definite areas to the high standard that the U.S. set for the rest of the world, and that he wants to embrace the East and the West equally and be embraced by both in return. He seems to be giving Asia (and his huge Asian fan base) the shout-out she is due these days, not trying to give America a put-down, in my humble opinion. And up and until an uncut video or full transcript of everything Rain said at this press con is made available and that article proven right, this will remain my opinion.

We don’t know why the press conference started late… no one has said why. Which makes me think it wasn’t Rain’s fault because if it was, surely AP would have used the opportunity to point the finger at him for that too. Hm. I wonder…

Thanks for the update and to Cloud Scorpiola for the translation. I agree, and also believe that both East and West are equally important to JiHoon. Sometimes with the translations, things can get slightly misinterpreted, based on word selections (because every word does not have a one-to-one translation). It’s nice to be able to see this video.
Also, Michael Jackson and Al Pacino, Huh. JiHoon knows who the best ones are… 🙂

He is probably basing it on how fans in Asia are more aggressive when it comes to watching imported singers. Let’s say for example in the Philippines, people there love music in general. Whenever a foreign singing group or singer hold a concert there, a lot of people, not just fans, patronize them. That’s why these artists love to come back to perform again. Somehow whenever these performers feel they receive warm welcome and see very enthusiastic responses from the audience, they seem inspired and confident for a comeback. Rain must have felt that Asians and its increasing population are becoming aware of the Western kind of music and movie production that now there is no difference whether such production is made in Hollywood or in Asia; he could be basing it on how the people respond to it.
This is just my opinion by the way.

Nothing that Rain said offended me being a US fan. What I heard him say in my own words is that he is proud of the fact that Asia has grown. They are now equal with America when compared to the areas of movies and music. I find nothing wrong with him saying this. His statment was not a put down to the US. Also, that he wants to work with both regions. I concluded this because he said both Asia and the US were very important to him. From this video footage Rain said nothing offensive at all.

You are welcome. I have watched the video and read the article more than once and I am still not offended. If Rain was having a Fraudian slip or he purposely meant to be offensive I did not pick up on that. Do not get me wrong I do not pretend to know Rain personally. He is human and he could of said or meant this. I just did not get that offensive vibe based on the words from his mounth and what was printed.
