[Cloud USA] What brought Runaway’s all-star cast together?

Asian news source My Daily reported on the epic excitement brewing for Rain’s upcoming drama Runaway yesterday, and said that interest in the show with only a month to go before broadcast is simply unimaginable.

Everything on the Runaway set is gelling so well because of the all-star cast’s faith and high expectations in the project.

Rain signing on in a leading role, being a top star, and winning popular acclaim abroad certainly got other Asian celebs wanting a piece of it themselves, not to mention the huge positive impact the show will make on their own futures.  Runaway officials are quoted as saying, “We guess they’ve shown interest in this project because Korean dramas are still spotlit all over Asia due to the Korean Wave.”

J. Tune is quoted as saying, “Rain expressed satisfaction that the outstanding part of this drama is its well-organized plot.  He seemed to think there wouldn’t be any problem at all making his comeback with Runaway, seeing as he is back from a long break.”

Actress Uehara Takako and director/comedian Dakenaka Naoto of Japan, actor/director Jeong Ji-Wi and singer Josie Ho of Hong Kong, and others are all too happy to join A-list Korean celebs Lee Jung-Jin, Daniel Henney, Lee Na-Young, Yun Jin-Seo, Sung Dong-Il, and Gong Hyung-Jin in this diverse cast.

It really is a shame that Jackie Chan’s schedule prevented him from joining friend Rain in this dynamic project.

(Thanks to rain bird @rain-eu for this information and for the original translation.  We so appreciate your help!)

Thank you, Henney, for adding some American flava to the mix.  We really are proud of you.  We hadn’t realized just how multinational Runaway was going to be, before this article.  How absolutely cool, when you think about it.

A while back, I was so hoping that Rain accepting a » Fugitive-like on-the-run role would come true.  And it has.  Who’s going to reap the awesome benefits?   We are.  Rain fans everywhere, let us rejoice!

  1. I’ve alwayed loved korean music sines 2003 and drams. So when I seen Jihoon oppa in Speed Racer I was happy for him. And that’s when I started to listen to more of Jihoon oppa’s music and others.

    • Hi, divalcious. Well…

My guess is that fans in Asia will immediately attempt to upload the KBS 2 episodes onto YouTube (unsubbed); and knowing YouTube they will be ready to immediately strip them off of the site. So whether or not we get a taste of them there (or on any other video site) will be a complete crap shoot at first (and we won’t know what the heck the characters are saying).

When I had KBS World, I did notice that a lot of times dramas showed up on that channel, hard-subbed in English, right after they ended their first runs on KBS 1 or 2. Which means that, depending on the amount of episodes (dramas vary, some are 16 epis, some are 32, 38, or more… a few have been 100+ and 200+) and how many air per week, we could be waiting anywhere from two months to six months, to a darned year. *sigh*

And then there’s DramaFever.net… who has legally gotten dramas from the networks, hard-subbed them, and put them up online within a few months of their initial showing. I am hoping and praying like a mofo that they are wheeling and dealing and trying to land Runaway RIGHT NOW, to save time.

And then there are those fans and sites who will be in a competition to see who can hard-sub the show (which is grueling and takes a hell of a lot of effort) and successfully get it up first. And there will be those fans who, when they think YouTube isn’t looking anymore, sneak and reupload the episodes again.

What a headache. I wish there was something more concrete. Everything is so up in the air when it comes to fans in the States. 😦 Of course, an unknown factor could come into play and we could unexpectedly get the opportunity to watch the drama just like everyone else, in the same time frame. You just never know.

Hey, glad you found the Rain Phenomenon!
