Rain Wins the 2010 MTV Movie Award for Biggest Badass Star, the night of June 6th. He is the first Korean in the history of the program to win an MTV Movie Award.  Yes indeed.  In the US, badassery has a new face!

Ninja Assassin premiere, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, EyeBiteTV.  Rain is the first Korean in the history of Hollywood to land a lead movie role, and the first Korean to land a role in a blockbuster film (Speed Racer).

MBC Special Biography: Rain Is Coming (first broadcast October 2008)

Discovery Channel’s Hip Korea series: Seoul Vibes, Rain (first broadcast March 2009).  This documentary follows Rain’s grueling childhood and lifelong journey, back-lit by the streets of Seoul.  In December 2009, it took home three awards from the 14th Asia Television Awards, beating out 204 other programs from 14 countries.

ACHIEVEMENTS

2011

Entered mandatory military service on October 11, 2011. Became squadron leader and First Class marksman, and was awarded a 5th Division Commander Citation for Respect and his private stripe upon his graduation from boot camp, five weeks later. Went on to become an Assistant Training Officer for Division 5. Is now a Public Relations soldier for the Defense Ministry’s Department of Information Services in Seoul. Rain’s mandatory military service will end on July 10, 2013.

After topping the TIME 100 Online Readers’ Poll every year since 2006, Rain not only won the 2011 poll (for the third time since 2006) but was also included in TIME Magazine’s 2011 special issue for its 100 Most Influential People of the year. This was his second time in the special issue (2006, 2011) and walking the Red Carpet into the TIME 100 Gala at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Appointed an honorary ambassador for Gangnam District’s cultural advancement.

Invited as a guest lecturer on Cultural Content at Hong Seoul National University (SNU).

Recorded and released “珍愛” (Treasure), the promotional song in connection with his China/South Korea Youth green ambassadorship, to bring awareness to the problem of desertification.

Named the Chinese and South Korean Youth Ambassador for Green Environmental Protection in Beijing, capital of China, March 1, 2011.

Recipient of the prestigious World Star Award at the 2nd Korea Seoul Art & Culture Awards.

2010

» Invited to represent Incheon, South Korea and close out the XVI Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.

» Winner of the 2010 Mnet Asia Music Award (MAMA) for Best Solo Dance Performance, for “Love Song”, in November.

» Voted the most influential star in South Korea for two years running, by foremost experts on administration, education, the press, law, enterprise, government, financing, entertainment, social organization, and religion in that country, as reported in the Sisa Journal in August.

Recipient of the 2010 MTV Movie Award for Biggest Badass Star, for his role in NINJA ASSASSIN (The first Korean to win an MTV Movie Award in history of the program.)
