Ahh. What a treat, y’all. Sweet teenager Ji Hoon, before he was ๋น, before he was Rain, when he was a member of fresh-faced boy band FanClub (ํฌํด๋ฝ/paen-keul-leob).
Please enjoy this 1998 performance of the song “๊ฟ์ ์ฐพ์์” (In Search of a Dream) from the group’s album 1์ง FANCLUB (FANCLUB VOL. 1). With the camera work, it’s difficult to point Rain out to you before he finally comes into view at minute marker 0:59 behind Kim Hosang, and at 1:25, to our far right at 2:22, and finally gets his solo-on at 2:51. After that, he spends the rest of the song to our far left. In the inset video at 3:45, he should be second from the end on our right side, in the plaid.

All I can think of is the quote “nobody puts Baby in a corner! ”
By the way, I thought that early group was considered not much of a success, yet that is a HUGE crowd. Were they just one of many groups performing for a concert or festival; or did they sell out that concert on their own?
And if they were popular, why didn’t they move forward? Why did Rain leave?

Not sure what show that was, but I do believe they were one of many groups there. Yes, as I understand it, they didn’t rise to massive success, but they were good enough to release 2 albums. Who knows, they might have made it with time, but the producer or manager or whatever he was took all of the group’s money and ran off with it, so they had no choice but to disband. *sigh * What lowdown, dirty skunk does that to kids. Made me mad, but then I thought it had to be fate. Otherwise we probably wouldn’t have Rain.
