This Month’s Featured Fan-made: By miuseNaBi, made with footage from one of Rain’s first game show appearances (Fort Boyard in 2003), set to his song “You Already Knew.” One of my very favorite fan-made videos ever, because it shows just how much of a competitive spirit he’s always had. 🙂 ^@@^
Rain is Eternal. Where clouds stay gathered, rain will always come. It is inevitable.

(Rain in Six To Five fashion, 2009. The man could wear the heck out of some clothes as well as design them! Gosh, I would’ve killed for that gray bag. ❤ ^@@^)
So why is the US Clouds fan site bumped from 8th to 9th? And where do the numbers come from and how do they work it work? Is the original Korean Clouds fan site #1 and each country gets a number thereafter?
Still a newbie so curious how things work.
(And yes I did read the info on the link that this is not an “official” fan site so I understand that much. Are the numbers based on unofficial sites then? But still, why bumped? )

Hi, Beez. Hope your week is going well. 🙂
Being 8th or 9th isn’t a rank (countries don’t get numbers or anything like that at all). The number refers to what membership term Rain’s official fan club in South Korea is in. Let me explain.
Back some years ago (somewhere around the mid-2000s), early in Rain’s career, Rain and his mentor/manager JYP set up an official fan club for him in South Korea with a name (The Cloud), a color (gray or silver, depends on who you ask), and a website. (Official Cloud fan sites in China and Japan would come later.) For each term, there would be a membership drive where fans had a limited amount of time to join and become official paid-up members of The Korean Cloud, and that membership term could be for a year, or more, depending on Rain’s activities. Each time a term expired, a new membership drive would begin. I don’t know what year they started numbering the membership terms, but in 2010, when Terri and I started Cloud USA, the Korean Cloud was in its 7th Cloud term and still fully Korean. When that term ended and time for the 8th term rolled around, Terri and I were able to join and become official paid-up Clouds. That was also the year that The Korean Cloud opened up membership to global fans all over the world (history-making at its best^^ We were so glad to be a part of it).
It was also the year that Rain went into the military for 2 years, and so, because he wasn’t available to do fan meets and appearances and other career activities, the 8th Cloud term lasted until well after he got out (it would have been like paying for membership for nothing and they didn’t want to do that to us).
The 9th Cloud recruitment period came around at the end of 2013 (we rejoined), so Terri and I have been 9th Clouds for a good while now. So, while Cloud USA is unofficial, Terri and I and around 100 or so fans in the U.S. are official Clouds in his sanctioned Cloud community in South Korea. (Globally, there are thousands and thousands, mostly in Japan, Korea, and China, but also across Asia and Europe, about 25 countries or so.) When the time comes that R.A.I.N. Company determines there should be a new membership drive, the 9th Cloud will come to an end and the 10th Cloud will start. IF that times comes.
So, that’s what those numbers mean. They weren’t referring to Cloud USA. I tend to ramble a bit, so I hope I didn’t confuse you. 🙂
“Our Mission” Page in our Cloud USA homepages explains everything fans need to know about us and about Rain’s official Korean Cloud. You can find it at this link:

Stephe! Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to explain that to me.
I’ve never joined any fan club before so I didn’t know there are fees, and especially not renewable fees.
But still, I thank you because I’ve seen the 8th Cloud appear on my google searches for so long (but I’ve only recently signed up for your regular posts though) – but “8th Cloud” for so long that I just thought that was the official name so when it changed after so much time…I didn’t know what to think.
Again, I have a glimpse of how very (noma noma noma) very, very busy you are (btw kudos on the article for Drama Fever) so, again, thank you SO MUCH!

You’re welcome.^^ We’re in the same boat — this was my very first fan club, too. I’d never been exposed to anything like it before. What an adventure. 🙂
I’m not one to usually put money toward something like this — money does not grow on trees, it is scarce for us average citizens! — but when I saw what the dues (very affordable) were used for (charity projects in Rain’s name, supporting him during his projects, his birthdays and anniversaries, etc.), I liked that.
I feel blessed to have DramaFever as an outlet for my work. Thanks again. TGIF!
