♦  Truthfully, folks, I am not getting what THE BIG DEAL IS when it comes to “Hyun Wook” (Rain) and “Se Na” (Krystal) and their ages.

Yes, I along with the rest of you have heard that in South Korea a romantic relationship between a man and a woman with too large of an age gap is frowned upon. But, pray tell, why is a mere 7 years considered a “large” age gap? Seriously? Especially when I’ve seen real life South Korean news of celebs and industry insiders and politicians and CEOs marrying girlfriends who are younger by 10, 12 years or more, and/or having babies by them? Huh? Men over there well into their 40s and heading towards 50 are in bed with women just turning 30, all the time. It ain’t frowned upon that much, apparently.

So, the Internet flack over Hyun Wook and Se Na seems overly dramatic and silly to me, at best. Unless the real dramatics are more about Rain and Krystal’s real ages, which is even sillier seeing that this is fictional television and illusion, and as such, is about their characters and not about them. *shaking my head*

Hyun Wook’s father’s wife isn’t anywhere near his father’s age, to boot (the actress, Kim Hye Eun, is 41)! Yeah, I noticed that. Granted, 40-ish women are regarded differently than 20-ish and 30-ish women of childbearing age, but still, that’s a clear double standard.

The only problem between Hyun Wook and Se Na should be the sister connection. Point. Blank. Period. Although the dearly departed So Eun, with her supernatural self, seems to have no problems with it at all. She is straight up trying to make this thing happen. 🙂

♦ “Shi Woo” (L) is really growing on me with his cute self! It’s clear that the pain and pressure he’s gone through in the past and at present are what make him who he is now, bless his heart. ♥ I soooo want to see him succeed and not get tripped up by his lack of confidence. I want to see him stick it hard to “Rae Hoon” and those other jackasses in Infinite Power. And when all of that happens, I don’t want to see him share any of that success with the non-deserving Ra Eum. Meh. Let that little heifer swing in the wind and know what she lost!

Was the AnA creative team actually serious about going with a Shi Woo logo that looked exactly like the old Infinite Power logo until Hyun Wook shut that down? Gimme a break!

I wonder if what L and Hoya are going through with their K-drama characters (jealousy, deceit, complete betrayal and abandonment) makes them value their real life connection as band mates even more? Wow. Seems like it would, for sure.

♦  OMG, “Hae Yoon” (Cha Ye Ryun)! A guy doesn’t return your kisses not twice, but ever, and that’s still not enough humiliation for you? Wow. By the time I was 30, I was so done with that kind of “I will make him love me and wait forever” tomfoolery! You can’t help who you fall in love with, but you sure as hell can help what you do about it. I would chain myself down in my basement with food, water, and a load of K-dramas and wean myself off of Hyun Wook cold turkey, and then have him going all Oppa on me when I found myself another hot dude as befitting my status.

And by the way, while a lot of what you’ve been saying to Se Na has legitimately been to help her avoid trouble, one thing you said made me bust a gut laughing. An unrequited love isn’t good for a 25-year-old, but it’s fine and dandy for a 30-year-old like yourself?

Bwahahaha~ Girl, bye.

♦  I love how Rain and Krystal have actually let the chemistry between their characters build and build until they (and we) were about to burst, and until a crisis with the lovable Dal Bong made them too weak to keep their defenses up any longer. Yes, I personally heard 4th of July fireworks go off in my head when THE KISS finally happened. And, before that, I love the way Se Na put that BS to rest about Hyun Wook “not seeing her as a woman”, and Hyun Wook’s “Damn it, I am so in trouble” look. ROFL!

Good job, girl. You had him on the ropes!

Regardless of who you’re a fan of, anyone who can’t see the sparks between these two characters needs a thorough examination by two or more individuals accredited in the medical and/or psychological fields. It is what it is.

I sure ’nuff enjoyed Se Na and Hyun Wook’s kiss for all it was worth, because this is K-dramaLand, which means that now fate is going to throw everything but the kitchen sink at them. Everything imaginable is going to go wrong and this relationship will take a nose dive, especially when Se Na finds out who he is and that HE DIDN’T TELL HER. Shi Woo will be able to make his move, and she’ll be too angry to stop him. The same for Hae Yoon. She’ll make her move, and the games will begin.

It’s going to be a long time before Se Na and Hyun Wook kiss again—if ever. *ooooh, my feels*

♦  *gasp* Sparks are flying between Hyun Wook’s father’s youngish wife and AnA’s Kang Tae Min! Why am I liking that idea so much? heheh~ I want to see more of that. Serves her old philandering hubby right (though I did wonder if the latest young lady he took those presents to could possibly be a secret daughter?).

♦  Big Tae singing Se Na’s song in his voice like butter! Wahhhhhh! *so stoked*

♦  I’d much rather be a songwriter with my songs on OSTs than an artist or “visible” celebrity. The lives of South Korean artists in front of and behind the scenes is pure unmitigated hell.

♦  PLEASE save Dal Bongie. Please! ㅜ.ㅜ

I’m so upset for Hyun Wook. If he loses his furry companion, that is his last untainted connection to So Eun. Not only that, unconditional love from people often turns out to not truly be that, whereas unconditional love from a dog is something you can bet your life on. Every single relationship that Hyun Wook has, friendly or hostile, is muddied by strings and conditions and pressures on him, except for his relationship with doggie Dal Bong.

I’ve fallen quite in love with Dal Bong. Just seeing him sick is hard enough. PLEASE don’t do the unthinkable, not just for Hyun Wook, but for me! I am begging.

So, what do you all think of Episodes 7 and 8 of My Lovable Girl? What are you longing to see happen in 9 and 10 next week?

What else are you into? I’m about to start Secret Door, The Night Watchman’s Journal, and DramaFever Latino telenovela The Clone.

Happy drama watching, y’all! 🙂

  1. Let me just say this, my father was born Feb 22, 1910 and my grand father
Was born March 3, 1901 so you do the math. I had the best of both .

So who cares. As long as they are HAPPY who cares. I love this movie,
I have watched it 10 times. I love Rain so much . By the way you talk about
AGE difference I was born June 24, 1945 ok but he is my new grandson

  2. LOL……I had to learn the hard lesson before 25 about pining away for a guy who doesn’t feel the same about you. One thing my mother told me years ago was….”daughter, when a man loves you truly you won’t have to guess about his feelings, he will show it.” I also interpreted that to mean that I shouldn’t go chasing after one either. LOL. You know what, I found out my mother is a wise woman. Hey, when all was said and done…HE was pining for me (but that’s another story). *SMILES*

Hae Yoon honey, Hyun Wook doesn’t want you and no amount of scheming will make his feelings change.

Oh and as far as the “age gap” between Rain/Kyrstal (Hyun Wook/Se Na), people get over it. It’s not that huge of a gap and no big generational issues will even really come into play for them. Just go with it people. Beyonce and Jay-Z don’t seem too worse for wear, considering their recent circumstances And they’ve got a baby and a Billion dollars to show for it too. So, age gaps be damned. *SMILES*…………………..

  4. Hear, hear!

    All excellent points, Stephe.

As far as I’m concerned, the writer No Ji-Seol, is a sheer genius for wrapping this drama up into the “Ottoke! I’m in love with my deceased girlfriend’s sister!” package. I have a feeling, though, that there’s more to the story than that.

We’re already halfway done with this drama, and in the first half, No Ji-Seol set up a plethora of angst-filled situations-to-come absolutely perfectly. If my writer’s instincts are right, then the second half is going to be even better, because we are going to get to watch all of those narrative threads come together with a big bang (no, not like the K-Pop group, like the fireworks Shi Woo and Se Na watched together).

The nuances are abundant, and so we’d better get ready, because Rain is about to kick some ass (including his own)–in a wonderfully dramatic way.

    I’m so excited.

  5. Your writing is always good and interesting. I don’t care about the age difference but I hate the idea of her being the sister of Rain ‘ s dead girlfriend. I’m also watching “Blade Man” it’s a weird story line but I can’t stop watching it.

    • I agree. There is an age difference and she is the sister of Wook’s deceased girlfriend but can’t you see the attraction from both Wook and Se Na? It is both sad and keeping us on the edges of our seats. There are so many storylines working that I’m stuck to it like brown on long grain brown rice!!

  6. You got my thoughts! I laughed so hard with Yoon Se Na chased Hyun Wook across the couch for a kiss! I mean come on, Wook feels something for Se Na but he is held back by protocol and the truth about who she is, with guilt of her sister’s death. I’d like to see Wook actually kiss Se Na and share the truth to her so they can deal with it and go forward or whatever. I would like to see their relationship grow within episodes 9 and 10.
